On Wednesday, 22 May 2019 students at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Belmore joined over one million children to listen to the same story being read at the same time all around Australia and New Zealand for National Simultaneous Storytime.
Now in its 19th year, NSS is a colourful, vibrant and fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy using an Australian children’s book.
There were 1, 085, 587 participants across Australia and New Zealand reading Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove.
Celebrations at St Joseph’s began on Tuesday with the Joey’s playgroup where young children and their mothers listened to a reading of the story and made special maracas to take home.
All students from K-6 read the book and made a craft activity to go with it.
